Pune Metro Line 3 Hinjewadi-Civil Court on Track for March 2026 Completion

By Admin·

Pune's ambitious Metro Line 3, the 23.3-kilometre elevated corridor connecting Hinjewadi IT hub to Civil Court in the city centre, is on track for completion by March 2026. The line, featuring 23 stations, will be one of the longest stretches in Pune's growing metro network and promises to transform commuter patterns across the city.

Progress Update

Construction on Line 3 has reached its final stages, with track-laying, station finishing, and systems integration work underway simultaneously across the corridor. Trial runs on certain sections have already been completed, and the Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation (MahaMetro) has expressed confidence in meeting the March deadline for a phased opening.

The line runs from Hinjewadi Phase 3 through Balewadi, Baner, Aundh, Shivajinagar, and terminates at Civil Court, covering some of Pune's most congested road stretches. It will connect to the existing Purple and Aqua lines at interchange stations, creating a more integrated metro network.

Why Kharadi Residents Should Care

While Line 3 does not pass through Kharadi directly, it carries significant implications for the area's residents. The recently approved Metro Line 4 (Kharadi-Swargate-Khadakwasla) is planned to connect with the broader metro network at interchange points that will eventually provide Kharadi residents metro access to Hinjewadi — Pune's other major IT hub.

Currently, the commute from Kharadi to Hinjewadi takes 60-90 minutes by road depending on traffic, making it impractical for professionals who switch jobs between the two IT corridors. Metro connectivity, once Line 4 is operational, could reduce this to approximately 45 minutes with one interchange.

Broader Network Taking Shape

With Line 3 nearing completion and Line 4 approved, Pune's metro network is evolving from isolated corridors into a connected grid:

  • Line 1 (Aqua): PCMC to Swargate — operational
  • Line 2 (Purple): Vanaz to Ramwadi — operational, with Ramwadi-Wagholi extension approved
  • Line 3: Hinjewadi to Civil Court — March 2026 completion
  • Line 4: Kharadi to Khadakwasla via Swargate — approved, 5-year timeline

For Kharadi, the combined effect of the Purple Line extension (through Kharadi Bypass) and Line 4 (terminating at Kharadi Chowk) means the area will eventually sit at the intersection of two metro lines — a distinction currently held only by a few locations in the city.

Planning Ahead

As Line 3 demonstrates, metro projects in Pune are moving from paper to reality. Kharadi residents can look at the Hinjewadi corridor's transformation as a preview of what's coming. Property near metro stations on Line 3 has already seen 20-30% appreciation during the construction period — a trend likely to repeat along the Line 4 and Purple Line extension routes through Kharadi.

The completion of Line 3 also validates MahaMetro's capacity to deliver large-scale metro projects in Pune, lending credibility to the timelines announced for Lines 4 and the Ramwadi-Wagholi extension.
