Pune Metro Phase 2 Line 4 Approved: Kharadi to Get Metro Station

By Admin·

In what could be the most significant infrastructure development for Kharadi in recent years, the Union Cabinet has approved Pune Metro Phase 2 Line 4 — a 25.52-kilometre elevated corridor connecting Khadakwasla to Kharadi via Swargate and Hadapsar. The project, estimated at ₹9,857 crore, will feature 22 elevated stations and is expected to be completed within five years.

Kharadi Chowk Gets Its Own Station

For residents and IT professionals in the area, the headline is clear: Kharadi Chowk will be a metro station. The Line 4 corridor will run through Swargate, Bibwewadi, NIBM Road, Hadapsar, Mundhwa, and terminate at Kharadi — tracing one of Pune's most congested commute routes. This means direct metro connectivity from Kharadi to key employment and commercial hubs across the city.

Double Bonus: Line 2 Extension Also Approved

Adding to the excitement, the Purple Line (Line 2) extension from Ramwadi to Wagholi has also received approval. This 12.75-kilometre stretch with 13 stations will run via Kharadi Bypass, effectively giving Kharadi access to two intersecting metro lines. The Ramwadi-Wagholi extension carries a budget of ₹3,626 crore.

MahaMetro has already initiated the tender process for the Ramwadi-Wagholi section as of February 2026, signalling that work could begin in the coming months.

What This Means for Kharadi

The convergence of two metro lines positions Kharadi as a future metro interchange hub on Pune's eastern corridor. For the thousands of IT professionals commuting daily to EON IT Park, World Trade Center, and other tech campuses, the metro promises relief from the notorious traffic bottlenecks on the Kharadi-Mundhwa and Kharadi-Wagholi roads.

Real estate analysts expect property prices in the Kharadi-Chandan Nagar belt to see further appreciation as construction timelines become clearer. However, residents should also brace for 3-4 years of construction disruption, particularly along the bypass and main road stretches where elevated pillars will be erected.

The combined investment of over ₹13,400 crore in metro infrastructure passing through Kharadi underscores the area's transformation from a peripheral IT suburb to one of Pune's most connected neighbourhoods.
